Privacy Policy

The short version: your photographs never leave your computer. Rekall Fusion does all of its work locally, and the only thing it ever sends over the internet is your licence key, to check that it is valid. This policy explains that in full, and covers this website too.

Rekall Software Solutions, established in South Africa, is the responsible party for the personal information described here, within the meaning of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. What the application sends

Rekall Fusion makes network requests to exactly one address: api.lemonsqueezy.com/v1/licenses, our licensing provider. Those requests carry:

• Your licence key, so it can be validated.
• An instance name, generated the first time you activate. It is your computer's name followed by eight random characters — for example STUDIO-PC-a3f91c07. It lets you see which machines a licence is active on, and release one you no longer use. Your computer's name may of course contain your own name if you chose it that way.
• An instance identifier returned by that first activation, so later checks and deactivations refer to the right machine.

That is the complete list. There is no analytics, no crash reporting, no usage tracking and no advertising identifier in the application, and no other server is contacted. Lemon Squeezy necessarily sees the IP address the request comes from, as any web service does.

2. What stays on your computer

Your licence state and your application settings are stored on your own machine, under %AppData%\Rekall\Fusion. A marker recording that the trial has been used is kept in your Windows user registry so the trial runs once per computer. Uninstalling removes the application; you can delete those files yourself at any time.

3. What happens when you buy

Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. They collect what a sale requires — your name, email address, billing address, the country used to work out tax, and your payment details — and they process it under their own privacy policy. Rekall never receives your payment card details. What we do receive from them is the order record: your email address, your name, the product bought, and the licence key issued. We use it to support you, to honour refunds, and to send you the occasional message about the software you bought.

4. This website

This site sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and runs no analytics or advertising scripts of any kind. We do not know who visits it.

It does load its typeface from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which means Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads.

The Rekall Fusion page offers a demo video. Until you press play it is only a still image served from this site, and nothing is requested from YouTube at all. Pressing play loads the player in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com); from that point YouTube receives your IP address and device details, and its own privacy policy applies to what it does with them. Nothing plays automatically, and if you never press play, YouTube never learns you were here.

Google Fonts, and YouTube if you choose to play the video, are the only third parties involved in serving this site. Our web host records ordinary server logs for security and reliability.

If you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can help you and remember what was said.

5. Why we may lawfully hold it

We rely on the performance of our contract with you for order and licence data, on our legitimate interest in running the business and preventing licence abuse for the instance name and server logs, and on legal obligation for the tax and invoice records we and Lemon Squeezy must keep.

6. How long we keep it

Order and licence records are kept for as long as the licence is live and then for the five years South African tax law requires of invoice records. Email correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful to support you. Server logs are kept for a short period only.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to how we use it, and complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa. Write to contact@rekall-ai.com and we will answer within a reasonable time and at no charge. Deleting your order record will end the licence attached to it, so we will say so before we do it.

8. Where it goes

Lemon Squeezy and our web host operate outside South Africa, so order data is processed abroad. We use them on the basis that they provide a comparable level of protection, as POPIA requires of a cross-border transfer.

9. Children

The software is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information about them.

10. Changes, and reaching us

If this policy changes we will change the date at the top, and say so plainly on this page if the change is material. For anything at all, write to contact@rekall-ai.com.
