Legal

These terms govern your use of Rekall Fusion and the other software published by Rekall Software Solutions ("Rekall", "we", "us"), a business established in South Africa. By installing or using the software you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not install it.
When you buy a licence we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the software for your own purposes, commercial or personal. There is no limit on what you may do with the images you produce with it: they are yours, we claim nothing in them, and you owe us no royalty or credit.
A licence key may be activated on up to five computers at a time. It is issued to you, not to a machine, so you can release one of those activations and move it to another computer whenever you like. You may not share a key with other people, resell it, or use it to run the software as a service for others.
You are buying a licence to use the software, not the software itself. Rekall retains all intellectual property in it. You may not decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer it, remove its licensing, or redistribute it in any form, except where South African law expressly gives you that right regardless of what a contract says.
Rekall Fusion offers a fourteen-day trial that unlocks the full Pro feature set. It needs no payment card and no account, it is started from inside the application, and it simply stops working when the fourteen days are up. The trial is available once per computer. It is provided so you can decide whether the software suits your work before you spend anything, and we encourage you to use it fully.
A monthly licence renews automatically each month until you cancel it, and you may cancel at any time through the customer portal link on your receipt. Cancelling stops the next payment; your licence stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
A lifetime licence is a single payment. It does not expire, and it covers the version line you bought together with the updates we publish for it. "Lifetime" refers to the lifetime of the product, not of any person, and we do not undertake to publish updates for ever — only that we will not withdraw a licence you have already paid for.
Our orders are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record and our authorised reseller. When you buy a licence your contract of sale is with Lemon Squeezy: they take the payment, issue the invoice, and handle any sales tax or VAT due where you live. Their terms apply to the transaction; these terms apply to your use of the software. Rekall never sees or stores your card details.
The software validates your licence key with Lemon Squeezy's licensing service from time to time. If your computer is offline, or the service cannot be reached, the software keeps working normally for a further seven days before it asks again. It does not need a permanent internet connection, and a network failure is never treated as an invalid licence. The privacy policy sets out exactly what those checks send.
Focus stacking is an estimation problem. Rekall Fusion decides, for every pixel, which of your frames was in focus there, and it is sometimes wrong — on fine hair against a busy background, on transparent or specular subjects, or where the frames do not overlap enough. That is why the software shows you its depth map, tells you where it had to guess, and gives Pro users a brush to correct it. We make no promise that any particular stack will fuse cleanly.
Beyond that, and except for the rights the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 gives you and which cannot be excluded, the software is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Nothing here limits our liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else a law does not allow us to limit. Subject to that, our total liability to you arising out of the software or these terms is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost or corrupted data.
Keep your originals. Rekall Fusion never modifies or deletes your source frames, but no software is a substitute for a backup.
You may stop using the software at any time. We may end your licence if you breach these terms in a material way — for example by sharing or reselling keys — and we will tell you why, in writing, and give you a reasonable chance to put it right first where that is possible.
We may update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top says when they last changed. If a change materially reduces your rights we will say so on this page and, where we hold your address for that purpose, by email. Continuing to use the software after a change means you accept it; if you do not, the refund policy tells you where you stand.
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. This does not take away any protection you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.
